The Only Mortal in Heaven — Episode 8: Both at Once

Episode 8 puts every motive on the table. A life on Earth, a life of her own, no more hunger: Asmodea wanted that long before she ever wanted William. 'So you do want me.' Her reply is pure demon: 'You're a nice bonus.' The rite only works with both guardians, so the angel and the demoness press their palms to his chest while Angel speaks the words, calling on the light she was made from and the fire Asmodea was born in to make his heart remember how to beat.

Light flares under their hands. Then nothing. Asmodea saw it coming: words were never going to be enough, and one spell cannot unlock their power. So she climbs into William's lap and starts peeling off her leather. Angel is scandalized. Asmodea just tells her to watch and learn, eyes burning red, before issuing the invitation that changes the whole ritual: 'Join us.'
